Princess Haya bint Hussein, a wife of the ruler of Dubai, said she invited Mary Robinson to visit her and Princess Sheikha Latifa as a family friend. Speaking on RTE Radio yesterday, Haya said the visit was nothing other than a private family matter. She defended calling on the former Irish president for support, saying she wanted Robinson’s advice because of her “integrity and unblemished track record” and because she is known as someone who tells the truth. She was sorry that the visit had led to negative consequences for Robinson.
